A disaster hit home here at Yangrima School on Saturday the 25th of April. A powerful 7.8 magnitude of earthquake devastated our village Sermathang in Helambu and many parts of Nepal. It’s the nation’s worst earthquake in 80 years and already has claimed the lives of more than 8,000 people. Thousands more are injured and displaced. And the termors continue to cause terror and more damages.
Most of the houses in Sermathang and neighbouring villages are destroyed. Most of the school building is very badly damaged and the boarding house is completely destroyed. The children at Yangrima School need your help.
I helped start Yangrima School 25 years ago and worked there for 10 years in the 90's. We produced some of the best students in the Helambu region many of who are working to improve education, health and livelihood in Nepal. I am based in Nepal and want to help rebuild the school and assist more rural young people achieve their potential and contribute to their society.
We need your help to provide temporary learning centres until the schools restart, shelter and meals to the children in the short term. Your support will also help us plan for the new Yangrima School. We want to rebuild the School and a safer future for the children in Helambu region. And improve life in the mountain villages.
Today, you can donate to earthquake relief and help rebuild Yangrima from this site. 100% of every donation will fund earthquake relief efforts, children's learning centre and help the new Yangrima School.
What does that mean exactly? Right now, funds will go to the most urgent needs: water, food, shelter, sanitation, hygiene, and emergency daycare for the children in Sermathang and nearby villages. Down the road, your support will help the school rebuild. The damages are deep and the recovery won’t be swift, but our response can be.
Nepal needs our help. Nepal needs your help.
