Asa Goes to Washington DC

Hello everyone!  My name is Asa, a 7th Grader in Chicago Public Schools.  I love my family, mom and my sister, my school, teachers and friends, math and sports of all kinds.  This year, my teacher nominated me to participate in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC this summer!  Besides feeling really honored to be nominated, I am hopeful that I will be able to raise the money to go.    My Go Fund Me campaign will help me to pay for tuition, travel, and lodging for 6 days in Washington.  I intend to donate any remaining money to start a scholarship fund at my school for students to go in the future.  In order to accomplish this goal, I need to raise all the funds by June 1, 2016. In school all year, we have been preparing for the Constitution Test including learning about our government, its laws and its history.  I am very excited to have a chance to visit places like Capitol Hill and witness our Congress in action, the Smithsonian Institute, all of the Veterans  war memorials, as well as those honoring leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., among others.  I look forward to meeting kids from all over the country and working with them on building our leadership skills.  Then we will come home to be leaders in our own schools and communities. I know that Chicago has a reputation for being a violent or negative place, but I love my city and can't wait to represent all that is good about Chicago to the rest of the country.  Thank you to everyone who is able to help me reach my goal.  I will do my best to show my gratitude by being a good person. good grades and a great leader for the rest of my life.
