Medical Bills

As a 40 year old current survivor of a heart transplant (5 weeks post operation) I have always live and done everything I wanted to do, within my means. I found my passion career as a Special Education teacher, married the most amazing man and have traveled the world over. I got sick in my 20’s, having two strokes. Was treated like a young woman and ignored, but persisted with the medical field ( always advocated for yourself!!) and was finally diagnosed with an enlarged heard at 33. Discovered I had a mutation in the DSP gene that was causing my ailments and went in to heart failure at 35. Was put on the transplant list at 40 and two months later received a heart.

I am lucky to have insurance but insurance doesn’t cover it all, there are the additional medical bills, co-pays, housing, food, gas, time missing work and on a teacher/winemaker salary in California we will be struggling for a while! I am so grateful to you the donator, my heart donor and the medical team that gave me a chance to continue my life with my family, friends and amazing students!!
