Hello-
As many of you know, Libby and I were adopted 21 years ago from Nepal. Last year we had an amazing opportunity to reunite with our birth family in Nepal. We reconnected with our 4 older sisters, their children and husbands, as well as our father and extended family.
Since we were there our family has gone through some tough times. Our father (and much of the village) is being evicted by the Nepali government to expand the current road into a highway to China. This summer, a landslide wiped out the village of our 2nd oldest sister, which took her life and that of her 3-month old baby. Her husband and 7-year old daughter now struggle to pay for school and support themselves.
And now, the devastating earthquake this past weekend which luckily spared their lives but damaged their surroundings. With the country shaken, and an unstable government to facilitate rebuilding, our family could use some help. Our sister, Kanchan, has been bringing food to the village since the shops there have been forced to close. She will know where to distribute the money to help rebuild.
There are many organizations people may donate to but we wanted to set up something that would be able to help those we love directly so they may rebuild and get back on their feet. Please donate what you can - $1 = 100 Nepali rupees, which can buy about 20 dumplings in a restaurant or couple bags of saag (veggies). Anything will help!
Thanks,
Maya and Libby
