Moving to Indiana for college and knowing nary a soul was a pretty scary thing. Luckily, I had Kristin Ingersoll on my floor! She was my very first friend at Indiana University and continues to be a wonderful friend. She knew I needed to be in Singing Hoosiers long before I realized it! She helped this only child in a single dorm room venture out into the halls and the great town of Bloomington.
Kristin is the kind of friend who would drop everything to help someone she knows or someone she's never met. She is talented, fun, funny, and immensely generous of spirit and energy. She's the first to reach out when your view of the world seems bleak. She feels the pain of a stranger as accutely as her own. Kristin is the kind of person you want on your team when you're fighting the enemy, whatever that enemy may be---bigotry, misogny, intolerance, or plain old stupidty.
For all of these reasons and more it seems sublimely unfair that the universe seems to be taking great pleasure in crapping on Kristin as of late. We all understand that shit happens, but not this much shit! Kristin has endured a great many trials in her life, some you may know about and some you may just need to understand are locked deep away with no key. In this instance, at a time when her financial situation is not at its strongest, some jackass hit her car, caused substantial financial damage (like $5,000 worth), and simply drove away, as though nothing had ever happened. Kristin relies on her vehicle to get her to work and to her life. Financially, a rental is not an option, nor is public transportation available. Her car must be fixed.
What Kristin needs is cash. And she needs it now.
I'm going to kick this off in hopes that through Hoosier fellowship and love, her friends will give what they can, knowing that when she can, she will carry you through your darkest days. Considering how many of the world's problems seem insurmountable, achieving this goal would be truly special, renewing my faith in what we can do when we come together.
Singing Hoosiers, Kristin's friends and family, complete strangers who have recently won the Powerball, I would be endlessly grateful if you'd help us.
