A Devoted Mother in Crisis
Carli Head is a devoted single mother who has spent her life caring for her three children—including her teenage daughter, who lives with a rare and complex medical condition
called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Carli has been her daughter’s primary caregiver, advocate, and emotional anchor through every challenge, standing by her side
through years of appointments, treatments, and setbacks with unwavering love and strength.
But Carli’s world has been turned upside down.
In the midst of a painful and contentious custody battle, Child Protective Services (CPS) removed her daughter from their home and placed her in their custody. Her daughter was terrified and had no idea this was the last time she would see her mother in person ( it has now
been over two months of separation). Carli is now only allowed limited, supervised video calls with her child. The deep, nurturing bond they share, built through years of care and sacrifice has been abruptly and unjustly broken. Her daughter misses her mother immensely and continues to advocate to have her mother by her side, but her voice is not being heard.
Even worse, her father has now requested that CPS also remove Carli’s youngest son from her care in order to win the custody battle. This little boy is deeply attached to his mother. He has already experienced his sister being taken away and lives in constant fear that he will be next. The trauma and stress on this family are unimaginable.
Carli has been wrongfully accused of neglect by CPS, accusations that do not reflect the reality of her life, Jewish faith or the love and devotion she gives her children every single day. She is anything but neglectful. She is a devotedly loving mother, a constant presence, and a true champion for her children’s well-being. It is not uncommon that caregivers of children with CRPS are accused of neglect because of the misunderstanding and lack of education of this serious and rare condition.
Carli was able to borrow enough to initially retain a custody lawyer through the generosity of family. But she is still in need of a lawyer to fight the case that DHS and the father are waging against her. We are hoping as a community to raise enough funds to cover her legal needs so she has good representation and a fighting chance to be reunited with her kids. She does not have the resources to continue this legal fight on her own. Without immediate support, she risks losing not just one child, but two.
This is where we need your help. We are raising funds to support Carli’s legal battle to defend her rights as a mother, to bring her daughter home, and to protect her youngest son from being taken. Every contribution goes directly to legal fees and will give Carli the chance to stand up for her children with proper representation and support. This is more than a custody case. This is a mother with limited resources fighting for the right to love, protect, and care for her children. With your help, we can lift some of the crushing burden Carli is carrying and give her the strength and tools she needs to fight back.
