George the cat is a gorgeous little grey and white cat that lives near our school - Fair Oak Junior School.
Although George has a lovely human family to live with he spends a lot of time with us on the school campus. He can often be found asleep in the school office or wandering the classrooms. He sometimes tries to join in with assembly or share some breakfast with the children at Breakfast Club. He also visits the gym on the campus too, especially in the evenings when there are no children to play with.
He is a very good natured cat that is loved by the staff and children alike here at the junior school. If any of the children are feeling sad or anxious he is really good at helping them to feel better.
On Monday evening, George was hit by a car in our car park.
Fortunately, the gym staff were able to contact George's humans and they quickly came to campus and were able to find him and take him to the vet.
After a night at the emergency vet he came back to the local vet here in Fair Oak where they did lots of X-rays and checked him over. It turns out that George has broken one of his back legs and has got some nasty wounds, some of which have gone down to the bone.
They wondered whether he might need to have his leg amputated at one point but fortunately the break is such that they can save it. But he will need to have an external frame fitted for 8-10 weeks.
This is all adding up to a huge vet bill.
Whilst his owners do have insurance it doesn't cover even half of the bills and they have now got to find between £4,500 and £6,500 to get him well again.
I wondered whether any of the non-family members, that know and love George, would like to help out with this by donating anything that you can afford. If we all give a little bit it might add up to quite a lot and help the family out.
