Help Fight Hunger and Food Insecurity in Jamaica
Tax deductible
Hello! My name is Peter Ivey, and I am the founder of The League of International Chefs Association and Mission:FoodPossible (M:FP), the leading grassroots food security organization in Jamaica. Over the past 8 years, we have been working hard to eradicate hunger and food insecurity in our island home. This year we are in the parish of St. Thomas and we need your help to train the canteen staff of 5 primary schools and 1 High School in St. Thomas to cook creative, healthy, low-cost meals with our local and indigenous crops.

The stark reality we face today is that nearly 3 million people in the English speaking Caribbean are battling moderate to severe food insecurity, with hunger rates surging nearly 79% over the last decade. As a response to this escalating crisis, Mission:FoodPossible (M:FP) has designed a community training program designed not just to combat global hunger, but to nurture and sustain hope through enhanced food security and reduced food waste.
Mission:FoodPossible | Training
At Mission:FoodPossible, a recognized Jamaican charity dedicated to eradicating hunger, we believe in empowerment through education. Over the past seven years, our two-day training programs have been transformative, using our Most Valuable Produce (MVP) scoring tool to strategically utilize local crops to bolster food security. The first day dives deep into the roots of food insecurity, exploring the complex layers of access to nutritious food and fostering a space where participants can craft impactful solutions, including developing MVP-focused recipes. The second day transitions these ideas into action, where participants hone their culinary skills to turn simple ingredients into nourishing meals. The two-day training concludes with an exciting community event where participants are celebrated for their achievements in front of family and friends. This third day features the awarding of certificates of completion along with an opportunity to sample the rich flavors of the participants' dishes.
Mission:FoodPossible | Impact
Since our inception, we have partnered with sixteen schools across the island, equipping over 70 canteen staff, teachers, and parents with the skills to feed our future. Even amidst the global pandemic, our commitment never wavered as we adapted to virtual and alternative formats of programming. Our efforts have positively impacted over 16,000 individuals, and our participation in an international virtual food security relay attracted over 2 million views. In 2019, Forbes Magazine highlighted that Mission:FoodPossible might just be the answer to solving the world's hunger crisis. https://www.forbes.com/sites/daphneewingchow/2019/06/25/mfp/
Mission:FoodPossible | World Food Day 2024
This year, from October 17-19, 2024, we are proud to announce Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future, Leave No One Behind, a three-day event commemorating World Food Day, set against the lush backdrop of St. Thomas. The parish was chosen not only for its fertile soil but as a tribute to Paul Bogle, whose spirit of justice and resilience continues to inspire us. Hosting the training in St. Thomas is a profound opportunity to leverage the community’s strengths, address its unique challenges, and promote enduring change.
Thank you for accepting the Mission!
