Send Tyler To Junior Worlds

Hello, my name is Tyler Martin.   I am a 16 year old student in Forsyth County, Georgia.   When I was a child I always wanted to make a big impact somehow and represent my country.  Today, I live with my loving mother who supports me through everything financially and physically.  Mom always tells me to try my best, try your hardest, and never think any goal is unreachable.

 I am writing you this letter, hoping that you can see how dedicated I am to my sport.  I have been involved with this sport called Canoe and Kayak going on 3 years now.   I started off in a beginner program called BBI about 2 years ago.  Ever since then, my life has changed drastically.  When I first started the sport, I was told that I joined at a late age and that it was going to take awhile for me to be as good as the other kids.  Well knowing me, I worked super hard and I devoted myself to becoming the best!  After only being involved with this sport for 4 months I got invited to go to a race at Nationals in 2013 for my club LCKC. This was a really big deal to me.  Over a dozen clubs were going to be at this event.  After all the hard work and sweat at Nationals, I got 2nd in a C4 (which is a Canoe 4 man).  These canoes aren’t your regular canoes either, see you sit in a high kneel position when you paddle.   This takes a lot of balance as you are  trying to stay upright while you do a “J” stroke paddle.  After Nationals was all over, I thought to myself, “Wow I can do anything if I set my mind to it.”   

After a couple months passed I was converted over to a full time canoer on the High Performance Team. The High Performance Team was a big deal, you practice every day twice a day. This meant that I was going to devote my life to this sport.  My coach (Morgan), always told everyone to dream big but accomplish small goals along the way.  My biggest dream would be to be in the Summer Olympics for Canoe, although I am a few years from this goal, I have another goal in mind. This goal was to make Junior National Team for Canoe, as of today I have been asked to be part of TEAM USA for Canoe and Kayak.  I will be going to Junior Worlds in July to represent our flag in Portugal.   This is quiet an honor, as most kids to not get invited.  You are chosen based on your performance at Nationals.  Although I have reached one of my goals, I still need help getting there, this trip sounds fun and amazing but it is expensive. The trip total cost is estimated around $4,200.00, this includes my flight, hotel and race fees.
