Our son, Garrett, has Congenital Heart Disease. His ventricles are switched, and he also has blockage in his pulmonary artery which prevents blood from circulating to his lungs, and causes pressure to build in the ventricle.
Thanks to a lot of luck and some amazing doctors, we were aware of his situation before birth, which allowed us to plan for what was to come. He underwent open heart surgery at 5 days old to relieve the pressure in his ventricle and allow enough blood to reach his lungs. This was done by inserting a shunt in his pulmonary artery. After a long month of recovery we finally got to bring our little hero home.
Since then, he has grown like a weed, and all was perfect until December. The doctors discovered that the shunt had kinked, and pressure in his heart was building fast. Garrett underwent an angioplasty procedure 2 days before Christmas. Our little hero shocked us all again, made a speedy recovery and we made it home for Christmas. Since then, he continues to reach milestones and breakthroughs every day.
This summer, Garrett will go in for his third procedure. The shunt in his heart needs to be replaced with one that is larger to accommodate his growth. This will be a reoccurring procedure throughout his life.
But, our little man is strong! He's beaten all the odds to make it this far and we couldn't be more proud.
Chris and I have done well to maintain, but we are still paying off medical bills and will continue to incur more. The money we raise will go to paying off past medical debt, as well as giving us a head start on what's to come.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donation. Every little bit helps in a very big way.
