Transition Costs
Donation protected
In July, my transgender partner lost his job, and his health insurance. We had barely begun his transition, and not wanting to interrupt it, we’ve been paying all transition costs out of pocket since. This is resulting in hundreds and thousands of dollars in deposits, fees, and care. We have forgone other bills to the point where we are swimming in debt and having things like WiFi shut off, possibly facing eviction if we cannot get funds together. Neither of us wanted to reach out in fear of being a burden, but we are at a point where its unmanageable. He has 5 appointments (2 injections, 1 endocrinologist appt, 1 blood lab appt, and 1 therapy appt) coming up for October, possibly a sixth, that are critical, if we miss any his transition will be halted. Each costs $100-$300. We are doing our best to apply for medi-cal, covered Ca, etc, but we are looking at 4-8 weeks before we get word + more money out of pocket, and that just isn’t possible to wait for with these expenses coming up. Please know that ANYTHING donated goes directly to transition costs and I am just trying to make sure that something he has waited 27 years for does not get pushed to the side.
