Since 2009 Jim has been a staple on the competition BBQ circuit. In that time he has won over 20 Grand Championships and almost as many Reserve Grand Championships. In 2013 he took home the Grand Champion's trophy from the Sam’s Club National Invitational BBQ finals which is the Kansas City Barbecue Society’s (KCBS) largest-sanctioned competition. He has also taken top ten at the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational and won numerous other accolades and awards.
Jim's love of cooking didn't start with BBQ. He's been the self-appointed cook since camping trips in high school. Whether it's a beach trip, a guys getaway or just hanging out at his house, if Jim's cooking the food it is going to be excellent!! Those who know Jim know that one thing he loves more than cooking is people. He enjoys conversation and is always willing to talk about food, cooking or just about anything. You would think such a decorated champion on the BBQ circuit would keep his recipes closely guarded...not Jim he's always willing to talk anyone through every step of making amazing pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken. Heck, he usually won't let you walk away without a bag of rub or a jar of homemade sauce.
This past weekend Jim and his wife Jan were doing what they love to do, cooking at a BBQ competition in North Carolina when he became ill and had to be taken to the hospital. He was put in the critical care unit and diagnosed with severe pancreatitis. His kidneys stopped functioning and the outlook was very dire. He had to be put on a ventilator and specialists were called in. He has made some progress but his condition is still very serious. The doctors don't yet know the cause but do know that the healing process with this condition is always long and slow.
Jim and Jan are both self-employed small business owners and as such have medical insurance that will leave them with huge bills. 100% of the funds raised here will go to Jim's family for expenses and medical related bills. Please help me help one of my best friends and his family through this difficult time. All donations and prayers are greatly appreciated!
