I got diagnosed with a rare inflammatory eye disease in April called Thygeson’s disease. It only affects 1% of the population and I am very popular at the eye doctors because of this. Thygeson’s causes chronic inflammation of the cornea and lesions that can lead to severe scarring of the cornea, cornea erosion, and vision impairment and loss. It is very painful as well. Unfortunately due to this going undiagnosed for years, I have been left with significant scarring on my corneas that has impaired my vision and will continue to do so if I don’t get surgery to correct this.

The surgery I need to get is called PTK, Phototherapeutic Keratectomy cornea surgery. This is technically classified as an off label treatment for the disease due to lack of research and cases reported, therefore the surgery will not be covered by my insurance. This surgery has cured one patient with the disease, and that alone is enough for me to be willing to explore it. I am desperate to keep my eyesight!! I love to see the world and I love to make my art!!! The surgery will cost anywhere from 3,200-3,500 for each eye. I am trying to raise 7,000 to cover the procedure.
