Support Dre's Fight Against Rare Kidney Cancer

Hi, my name is Allison Thoene and Andria Bergeson is one of my dearest friends. You may also know her as "Dre" :)

In September of 2024, Dre was diagnosed with an extremely rare stage 4 kidney cancer at the shocking age of 37. What started as simple abdominal pain continued to worsen over the next several weeks and eventually led her to the emergency room, where they discovered a large tumor in her left kidney.

Dre underwent surgery to remove her left kidney, spleen, adrenal gland, and some tissue from her diaphragm. The doctors felt optimistic that they removed everything they could.

Her cancer consisted of two types: Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma (ChRCC) and Sarcomatoid Renal Cell Carcinoma (sRCC). The sarcomatoid features made up over 50% of the cancer and is an extremely rare and highly aggressive type of cancer. The combination of the two is even more rare.

Unfortunately chemotherapy and radiation are not recognized as effective treatment options for sRCC, so after recovering from surgery, Dre started immunotherapy treatment.

Just a few weeks later after some recent chest pain, she had another CT done, which uncovered two more masses, indicating the cancer has spread even further. She is currently receiving treatment through Mercy Hospital and was referred to MD Anderson.

I am raising funds for Andria and Darryl Bergeson to support them with medical bills and travel expenses, and any other unforeseen costs that may arise.
