Support Matt's Journey to Recovery

Friends and Family,

Today, I write to you with a heavy heart and a plea for support. Our beloved Matt and Amanda are in desperate need of our help.

On June 7th, Matt experienced a devastating stroke that has turned their world upside down. Rushed to UC by ambulance, doctors had to remove a portion of his skull to allow his brain to swell without further damage. Matt spent eight grueling days in the Neuro ICU, fighting for his life.

The stroke left Matt with significant challenges. He has lost mobility on the left side of his body, a harsh reality that has forever altered his and Amanda’s lives. On June 15th, Matt was transferred to Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital, where he endures three hours of physical, occupational, and speech therapy daily. Every small improvement is a beacon of hope, but the road to recovery is long and uncertain.

In 6-8 weeks, Matt faces another critical surgery to replace the skull bone once the swelling subsides. His neurosurgeon has warned that full recovery could take 12-24 months, with no guarantee of how much mobility he will regain. This uncertainty is a heavy burden for Matt, Amanda, their 3 precious children and their loved ones to bear.

Insurance coverage is limited and dictates much of Matt’s rehabilitation journey. While his therapists are advocating for extended care at Gateway, the reality is that many essential items and treatments for his transition home won’t be covered. The mounting medical expenses are overwhelming.

This is where we come in. Matt and Amanda need us to rally around them, to lift them up during this incredibly trying time. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a world of difference. It will help cover the costs of Matt’s care, therapy, and the essential items he needs to adapt to his new reality.
