Hello, my name is Nick and I'm starting this fundraiser to help escape an abusive situation at home.

Me and my roommate have been living in an abusive and controlling household for the past 6 months. We're in our mid-20s and just moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in June. When we first moved out here, it seemed only logical to move in with relatives since it would allow for us to sort-of get our foot in the door and establish ourselves to live in the area. Unfortunately, the idea of staying temporarily was quickly shot down once we actually reached our destination.

About our situation

My roommate, Sky, and I have been living with relatives of mine. Upon moving in, we were quickly told that our stuff was impeding on their lives and that we needed to find a way to deal with it. Eventually, we were forced to rent a storage unit to place all of our stuff inside and half of our furniture was thrown out by them. We've been living without access to most of our clothes or possessions. In fact, most storage space inside the rooms we're renting is taken up by my relatives' stuff and clothes and we are unable to use things such as closets and shelving. We do not get privacy because of this, too, since they use this as an excuse to come inside our rooms whenever they please.

Despite not leaving the rooms we're renting, we've been accused of damaging or destroying appliances and befouling our designated restroom/rooms. We are not allowed to take showers regularly or use the heater/AC. We're also not able to use fans in the heat, as another example. Everything we do needs permission in order to actually do it, which includes the showers and using the kitchen for anything. We have eaten nothing but take-out the entire 6 months we've been here because we have not been able to buy our own groceries, let alone use the few we are able to buy.

We have also been the victims of verbal abuse from one of my relatives. It seems like every day we're called names by him as well as criticized for how we act and present ourselves.

Selling of the house

My relatives have recently decided to sell the house and leave the state, which they made without warning and did not make any sort of indication they intended to sell it before we actually decided to make the move out to California. This decision was also finalized while I was away for a funeral out-of-state. I am unable to transfer my job, which would mean I'd have to stay in the area, and my roommate is disabled. We need to stay in the area for our own well-being.

What the funds will go towards

All funds raised by this fundraiser will go towards placing a deposit on a new rental unit for us as well as the first month's rent and any moving expenses that may arise in the process. This includes but is not limited to--
