Renier was diagnosed in Fall 2017 with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.   ALS is a rare disease where nerve cells in the brain and spinal chord die, causing progressive muscle atrophy and eventual full paralysis.  It is a terminal disease and there is no cure. 

Renier is a loving dad to 2 daughters.  ALS has stolen his future of running, mountain biking and skiing  And many other things. But not swimming. Renier swims as often as he can with his children and to beat ALS.

Unfortunately, as progression sets in so do the daily expenses. Much of which medical insurance does not cover. eg, a recently installed stair lift.

Donations will help Renier's family take on these monthly growing costs of fighting his progression with specialized treatments, customized transport, and aids as disability sets in.

Renier has recently lost the ability to drive and independence to go to the pool where he recently accomplished swimming a mile.  But he does not give up easily. His wife, Suzanne, takes him as often as she can to the pool and helps him in, so that he can swim to keep his muscles functioning. As they say within the ALS community. Use it or lose it.
