For Jake Funeral Costs

Donation protected
My second cousin, Jake has been fighting childhood cancer for almost 10 years.  Jake had a PET scan done on Thursday, June 3rd. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best news.

Findings: He has a spot on his scalp, one near his heart, new ones in his lungs, a spot on his cervical spine that has fractured the bone and a spot on his femur (left, backside of the thigh), and other tiny ones about the size of a dime around his lower abdomen.

Treatment: His doctor wants to quit the clinical trial one that he's been taking as it's not working. He will start traditional chemo, most likely this week or next. We will talk with the radiation oncologist about treatment for his cervical tumor to help kill it and relieve pain. In the meantime, his doctor will be reaching out to MD Anderson, St Jude, Children's Hospital of San Antonio, and one other place locally. Jake will meet with palliative care to help address his nutrition, pain management, depression, and physical activity.

Today, June 12th:  So Jake has been having some issues lately. Two days ago, he was admitted due to hypoxemia and shortness of breath. Come to find out that he had some minor fluid, and one of the tumors in his right lung was making it hard for him to breathe. He was sent home on oxygen. They discharged him on the 9th with low hemoglobin of 7.3 . On the 10th, he started his new chemo. His hemoglobin was 6.6 when he went for treatment. His doctor felt that treatment needed to begin immediately to get the tumors under control.

He left treatment that evening, knowing that he would need to go for a blood transfusion on the 11th. Jake's doctor wanted him to be transfused with 2 units of red cells. The first unit was fine. Approximately an hour and a half to one hour, Jake started wheezing really bad and complaining of shortness of breath. For Jake,  2 units of blood back to back was too much for him.

Jake now has more fluid on his lungs, and unless the fluid pools together, there isn't much the doctors can do. He can't have lasix because his blood pressure is low. So they are hoping the fluid either pools, and they can do a thoracentesis. If it doesn't pool, they will have to wait for Jake to urinate it all out. They have barely have had any sleep. Jake finally crashed about 3:30 am, Stocky about 4, and Jennifer can't sleep. Dallas has been holding down the fort at home, taking care of the pets, getting groceries, running errands, and feeding the deer.

They don't have any answers right now.

Jennifer and Stocky are staying by Jake's side. To support them, whether it is through food, gas, parking, or other essential items that we are unaware of, at this time, any donation would be greatly appreciated.
