Hello, I'm Kendall and this is me and my family's story. Thank you in advance for your time.
I considered having this authored and sent by someone else as I worry if I did it myself I look like "woe is me". However, everyone at some point needs help and this is the reality of my current situation. My family and I are in need of help from traumatizing and unheard of circumstances. Each on their own it is bad, but together it is a series of events that would challenge any person or family to the point of collapse.
Walking became extremely difficult in late 2022 and so I had a bilateral laminectomy January 5th 2023. Just 10 days later, the staple site got infected and the area had to be excavated which required another surgery. This left me with a hole and wound vac on my lower back for a month. Aside from hoping to be able to walk without pain, my other goal was to join my Godson and his family on trip that we had planned a year prior. Thanks to my mom and friend Ian becoming make shift nurses, I was able to handle the wounds and make the trip.
Then things turned, once back at Ian and Amber's home in Florida I noticed more problems, namely a swollen ankle. I already have severe autoimmune illnesses that include Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis that have plagued me since I was 14 and have permanently damaged joints all over making normal issues hard to assess. The ankle progressively got worse to the point that I couldn't walk and had to go to the hospital.
Pain escalated to a degree that I couldn't do much of anything and many procedures were needed. They had issues moving me at all because of pain (due to MrSA/Staph in blood) and I couldn't even have an MRI done without the use of anesthesia. This is when other damage began to occur (collapsed lung) on top what was actually happening inside.
At this same time, as I was entering for first surgery in Florida, back in Lake Charles my home literally got struck by lightning and burned. My mom was sitting in the spot where lightning came through roof. In shock, she didn't move but thankfully my dad arrived to get her and 4 dogs out of there and saved them. However, everything else in the house was lost. Lightning has extraordinary impact and burned the house from the inside out. A total loss, while their son unbeknownst to them starts the fight for his life.
Instead making this too much longer I'll rapidly go through what follows:
Collapsed Lung
Bowel Obstruction/Rupture from Infection and ended with colostomy bag.
Infection in back again and required drains
Pneumonia with Mrsa
Intubation 2 times
Mrsa/Staph in blood causing use of at least 15 different antibiotics over the past few months
Resulting months in hospital and relearning walk, and use of everything else.
This all happened one after the other and I've been in the hospital ever since, currently approaching 2 months straight.
I never thought any of this would happen, but at the same time it's almost beyond anything to comprehend. I surely never thought I'd be here asking for any help. It would be futile to list everything we need to do because of what happened but I'll try so people can understand who and what they are helping.
My mom and dad are seniors that are tryiing to re home after losing everything and nearly their son. We have just finished with Hurricane Laura and now begin this journey. All complicated further by me getting deathly ill 800 miles away. Now I'm nearly alone, but have a saint in my best friend who has been doing everything to help but it is too much, and has been, for one person logistical and monetarily. My parents now have to split residency somehow to help me while finding new home. My dad is trying to keep things going and work with insurance in Louisiana, and my mom with also her host of physical issues trying to help me in Florida.
I can no longer do much of anything after 2 months in the hospital. Im told I need to learn to walk again amongst everything else. My arms don't work, can't walk, bed ridden, and saddled with foley catheter and colostomy. Dignity left awhile back, surviving and recovering is what I'm here for. Ive had a very trying life and managed my best. Now I'm here, in my hospital bed asking for help. Any help. If you are able, thank you one thousand times over. If you are able to read, acknowledge, and share; thank you one thousand times over. Anything and everything is appreciated and I'm beyond grateful. Thank you for your time.
