Dael Umanzor is an 8th grader at Ryogoku Soccer Academy (RSA) who is passionate about improving his community. Dael loves his school because he gets to help his community and play soccer daily.

Students at RSA are required to work on a Passion Project. Each project requires students to find a real-world problem and work with community partners to find a solution. These topics must directly relate to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) put into place by the United Nations (UN) (https://sdgs.un.org/goals).

In the Spring, Dael and his peers will plant 150 trees to help their community by reducing the number of trees being cut down annually and also to stabilize the air pollution in the community.

Meeting with several local organizations, Dael determined that a common issue is trees being cut down. After in-depth research, he decided that many trees were being cut down.

Dael’s goal is to reduce and eventually prevent trees from being cut down worldwide. Dael has partnered with several organizations like Jerusalem Farm, Giving Grove, Kansas City Community Garden, KC Farm School, and Missouri Organic that will help his Passion Project with resources.

Dael wants to help the world by planting 150 trees anywhere that he is able. People can help Dael by donating materials and helping to plant trees. Dael wants to bring awareness to trees being cut down in the world and how it hurts the globe. Trees help stabilize the air pollution that is bad for you. Trees give us good air to breathe. Cutting fewer trees will help create a better future for our planet.

Dael is passionate about helping the planet with a unique set of challenges. Dael uses his language to connect with others in his community that may not speak English. He can easily translate what other people say into Spanish. He also connects with other people through things he likes to do like soccer, bowling, roller skating, and ice skating. Dael would love your support. Dael can use your help, let's do this together!

Ryogoku Soccer Academy is an International Middle and High school in Kansas City that provides a community-based learning model tied directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Students and staff work to ensure meaningful learning opportunities occur within the classroom and in the community. We recognize our students learn through being active and engaged inside and outside of the classroom. They go into the community daily to make meaningful and inspiring connections to the neighborhood.
