Trudy Needs Your Help!!

Trudy is a little stray dog that was hanging around Rudy’a BBQ on Nakoma since 2019. She survived the polar vortex of 2020 but she’s old now, 8 years old. She was named Trudy by the staff at Rudy’s several years ago and was often fed scraps by the staff and customers. We left food and water for her in the parking lot nearly every day for the last five years, but only saw her occasionally because she wandered the commercial area looking for food. She’s very skittish and there are days when she didn’t show up at all. She is sweet and harmless, very docile and not aggressive.

The new management at Rudy’s told us to stop feeding Trudy in the parking lot and the employees were forbidden to give her scraps. So we decided to hire a professional trapper to catch her. On Sunday, February 2 we set up a missy trap in the parking lot next to Rudy’s and after a few hours of feeding little trails of barbecue inside the trap, we caught her. Hallelujah! This was truly a miracle. She needed to be rescued because they stopped feeding her and because of impending freezing weather. Because scorching summers were ahead, with Trudy pounding the hot pavement in that commercial district looking for food. And because of the likelihood of Trudy being sick, which she is.

We took her to Churchill Vet Clinic on West Ave. and she did in fact have heart worms. So it was absolutely necessary that she be rescued or she would have died a long, slow, painful death on the streets.

A wonderful woman, experienced with heart worm treatment and recovery, is fostering Trudy and will nurse and comfort her through her ordeal. Trudy will be recovering from very painful heart worm injections, followed by severe inflammation and then confinement.

Trudy is the sweetest, gentlest dog. On the street she would eat with caution, always looking around. She didn't even know what to do with a toy or a dog chew. She deserves this chance to live and be loved. And to just be a dog, learn to play and feel safe.

We are looking for your help to pay the vet bills and all of the expenses involved in taking care of her for the next four months as she receives her heart worm medicine and recovers. Your donations, generosity and prayers are greatly appreciated!
