A 4-month-old fighting for her life needs urgent surgery in South Africa.
Every parent dreams of holding their baby close and watching them grow. For us, each day with baby Naya is a precious gift — a fight for one more heartbeat, one more smile, one more tomorrow.
We’re a small Malawian family fighting to give our baby girl the heart surgery she needs to stay alive.
On June 13th, we welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world — our long-awaited blessing, Naya, meaning Purpose.
Throughout pregnancy, my wife endured constant pain from a large fibroid. We never missed a single antenatal visit. Doctors had planned to remove the fibroid during delivery — so the day of her birth was meant to bring both joy and relief.
But moments after we heard Naya’s first cry, everything changed.
The doctor said the fibroid couldn’t be removed yet, and within minutes, our baby girl was rushed to the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Her tiny body turned blue as doctors struggled to stabilize her.
At the referral hospital, scans revealed the heartbreaking truth:
Two holes in Naya’s heart (causing purified and unpurified blood to mix)
A narrow pulmonary artery, making it hard for her heart to pump blood to her lungs
In a country like South Africa or India, doctors said, this condition could be fixed soon after birth. But in Malawi, such surgeries are unavailable.
We started raising funds to take Naya to India for open-heart surgery. Sadly, delays in getting her passport — due to Malawi’s shortage of materials and foreign exchange — took over two months. During that time, her condition worsened.
Now, baby Naya experiences life-threatening apnea (tet) spells — moments when she stops breathing and turns blue. She is almost constantly on oxygen, and doctors must be ready to resuscitate her at any time.
Recently, we were told that Naya is too fragile to survive the long flight to India. Her only chance now is urgent transfer by air ambulance to South Africa, just 45 minutes away — where she can get the lifesaving surgery she desperately needs.
Why We Need Your Help
We are humbly asking for your support to help us:
Fly Naya safely to South Africa for emergency heart surgery.
Cover her treatment and recovery costs.
Use any remaining funds to help improve the children’s HDU and resuscitation wards in our local hospital — by adding more beds, infant oxygen masks, and shelter for guardians.
Despite all odds, Naya is still fighting — thanks to the dedicated doctors and nurses in Malawi who continue to care for her with love and commitment, even with limited resources.
Please, help us give Naya a chance to grow, laugh, and live out her Purpose.
Every prayer, share, and donation brings her closer to life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
