The death toll from the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday at 11:56am has risen to more than 3,800. More than 6,000 people have been injured. Powerful aftershocks, more than 50, between Kathmandu and Everest have also unleashed more avalanches in the Himalayas and caused panic in the capital, where hospital workers stretchered patients out into the street as it was too dangerous treat them indoors.
Nearly a million children have been “severely affected” by the earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, a spokesman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) has told Reuters. Shelter, food, water is limited and there is fear of disease in addition to the continuous aftershocks.
Vast tent cities have sprung up in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, for those displaced or afraid to return to their homes as strong aftershocks continued. Thousands spent Sunday night - their second night - outside.
While rescue and aid efforts are ongoing for Nepal, which is home, I feel motivated and compelled. All of us must. Therefore this request of donations is to fund and help the displaced children in the city of Kathmandu to obtain safe drinking water. After talking to people in Kathmandu, it is clear that there is a desperate need for water purification tablets and optimization. We aim to bridge this gap. A continuos update will be provided.
