Introduction
My name is Sade Harvey. And I am a student-athlete at North Star Academy Washington Park High School in Newark, NJ. North Star itself is a very academically rigorous focused high school, which indeed makes it challenging to be a student-athlete. But, I am one to embody and adhere to the challenges that follow along as I aim to achieve my dreams - which is why I am sharing my admirations, dreams, and success with you.
As I commence my enterprise toward a Volleyball Future, your generous support will assist me in forwarding my dreams of playing volleyball in college and beyond.
My Journey So Far (Freshman to Junior Year)
I was first introduced to volleyball when proceeding into my freshman year. It was pure intrigued curiosity that pushed me to walk through those gym doors.
I was very adamant about having the best high school experience and succeeding in volleyball, so I watched numerous volleyball-related YouTube videos to educate myself before tryouts. The novelty of the sport is what captivated me - and with that, I fell completely in love with the sport.
The results of tryouts revealed that not only was I the only freshmen to make the varsity team, but also the only underclassmen.
Sophomore year, I began to take on more of a leadership role on the court, which helped me develop the confidence to establish myself as a candidate for captain my junior year.
At the beginning of my junior season, my teammates elected me as their captain. I took this role very seriously because I believed it was my responsibility to drive the success of the team. As a player from freshman to sophomore year, I’ve learned to love the game of the sport. As the captain my junior year, I’ve learn to love the reason behind the sport.
Achievements
I began to be recognized not only by my coaches and teammates, but also by the officials and other coaches from other teams in my division.
This resulted in me…
Being voted MVP two years in a row by my teammates,
Being elected as an NJSIAA Student Ambassador (a representative of over 200,000+ high school student-athlete voices),
And being selected as part of the First Team-All Essex County all-star team at the end of the 2018 season.
Continued Steps To Improve
Most would consider me to be a late bloomer in the world of volleyball and would give me a reality check on how far they believe I would be able to make it - as compared to other girls, I’m more than 10+ years behind on my start training. But that hasn't stop me from continuing to drive the success for my volleyball future. Volleyball has enabled me to discover and develop a lot of my leading characteristics, such as working with a team, the ability to be coached, and to coach, while diligently working on my craft.
Travel Club Cost
Unfortunately the next steps to enhance my skills are costly. As national volleyball club tournaments take place across the U.S. Therefore, financial investment into my future will be a big part of my success. I’m kindly asking for your help in assisting me in raising $3,500 so that I can reach my dreams of progressing towards playing volleyball in college and beyond. The funding provided will cover the costs of club fees, and travel.
