Our very dear friend Heather the Lunch Lady a 45-year-old mother of three (with two still at home depending on her), received devastating news this past July. She was diagnosed with breast cancer—and on the very same day, she learned that she was no longer employed due to a company buyout.

For those of you who know Heather, you know how extraordinary she is. She radiates kindness, strength, and warmth. She is the kind of person who always puts her family and friends before herself and gives without hesitation.

At the end of October, Heather underwent a double mastectomy, which was successful. However, further testing revealed cancerous cells in her lymph nodes. As a result, she now faces months of chemotherapy beginning at the end of November, followed by daily radiation treatments in Cedar Rapids, Iowa—requiring a 3-hour round-trip drive every day.

Because of her diagnosis and treatments, Heather has been unable to work and likely won’t be able to return until the spring. Some of her medical expenses aren’t covered, and the cost of gas, appointments, and everyday necessities is becoming overwhelming for her and her children.

Heather is one of the strongest and most selfless people we’ve ever known. She has lifted so many of us up in our times of need—now it’s our turn to lift her up.
