After being widowed for a few years with two beautiful daughters, I met a great human being and fell in love with him. He showed me love, respect, faith, and the value of a woman, not only with me but with my girls too. We enjoyed great moments and decided to get married. As adults, we organized our small wedding with those we really wanted to spend that special day with. Finally, the big day came on December 21st, 2024. Everything was beautiful; we had family and friends with us. We had a beautiful party, then Christmas, and we ended up with the most special New Year's.
We started our year full of strength to start making our dreams come true, working hard and staying healthy until that day at the end of January when he came to me in bed and said, “Sweetie, give me your hand. I felt something weird on my chest.” He put my hand on his chest to feel, and I said, “Yes, I feel like a bump.” We looked at each other and started talking, thinking maybe it was a bad move or something at work. I told him, “I’m calling to make an appointment with the doctor.” He went to the doctor, and she said nothing to worry about; it feels muscular, but I’m sending an ultrasound and a mammogram. We went ahead and had the tests done, and they kept saying it was muscular. He came to me and said it was getting swollen. “I don’t feel good with what the doctor said,” so we went to another doctor, and she said, “I really don’t like what I see; go have a CT scan.” The authorization with the insurance took long, and on Tuesday, March 18th, he came home from work with his chest extremely big, so I told him, “No more waiting for insurance; we are going to the ER.” He was admitted and had many tests done. That Friday, he had a biopsy done, and during the intervention, a sack of liquid exploded. The surgeon closed him up and sent us home. A week later, it was swollen again, so we headed back to the hospital, and we had to stay again. That morning, the surgeon came to the room and was looking at his chest when I asked her, “We had a biopsy done last week and haven’t heard anything.” She just looked at me, opened her arms, and said, “It came back positive for cancer,” and hugged me. I was shocked and looked at my husband, and both of us started crying and hugging; we couldn’t believe that was happening. I was clueless; I didn’t know what to do, never ever had experienced something like this. Immediately, I texted my boss, and she said, “Give me a few minutes; my husband and I will get back with you.” It was a moment of confusion and understanding; we didn’t talk much. I couldn’t believe it. My phone rang, and it was a text from my boss saying, “Call this person; she will get everything arranged for you guys.” I couldn’t believe it; I started crying and shaking. All I did at that moment was hug my husband and then bend on my knees and thank God for the bosses I have; they have been helping us through the whole process.
After chemotherapy, radiation, and some hospital visits with infections, we are finally getting surgery. It has been months that I’m the only provider in the house, and doctors said that it will take at least 6 months for him to recover and go back to work. It has been very hard, not only emotionally but economically. I’ve been trying not to get behind on payments, but it’s getting harder and harder. Now, with the girls going back to school, more expenses, medical bills, his expenses, mine, and the house, it’s getting to be too much for me.
We are fundraising to help cover the medical bills, household expenses, and school costs for our daughters during this challenging time. Please help us and Thank you in advance
