Hi everyone, it's Becky here ...
For people who already know me I am a busy mum of three gorgeous children and spend many hours running my sports massage and photography businesses, along with all the usual extra curricular activities that my friends with children will all understand too well!!
I have always loved sport since I was tiny, but ten years ago after seeing my friends at a garden party with their race tattoo's proudly displayed on their arms, they were so ecstatic about what they had just achieved I needed to find out what all the excitement was about.
On a borrowed bike and a few pool swims in the bag, I found myself on the beach at Bamburgh about to embark on my triathlon journey! I soon found out that not being able to bike or swim very well was a slight problem and just about finished albeit about 3rd last, but I was a triathlete!
My children took up all of my time and I concentrated on swimming and running to mainly give me a bit of time out from mum duties. During this time I raced aquathlons which involved swimming and running and avoiding the dreaded bike bit.
Spring forward to lockdown and I finally decided to buy myself my first road bike, obviously I couldn't ride it very well and it wasn't pretty, oh and also too big, but it was mine.
A lot of hard work later and I qualified for the European 70.3 Half Ironman Championship's in Pamplona, Spain in May of this year. And in my wildest dreams never thought that I would come away from that with a medal, but I won my age-group against the best 25 girls in Europe... I was European Champion, Me, Becky, European Champ!!
In August of this year I entered a new type of triathlon called a T100, where you swim 2km, bike 80km and run 18km. This was mainly an end of season fun event (if doing all of that is classed as fun!) As I was pretty chilled and the field of athletes was enormous, with over 1200 taking part I just went out there to do my best.. I only went and smashed it coming away with an age group gold and a top ten overall finish amongst all age groups.
However, I didn't realise this would qualify me for the World Championships in Qatar in December of this year something i would never ever achieve.
The challenge now though is the cost, between flights, accommodation, and entry fees, it's all going to add up to a whopping £5,000!!! That's more than I can cover on my own, so I'm asking for a bit of help. I know times are tough and not everyone can chip in, but if you'd like to support me, a contribution of any size would make a real difference in helping me to get there.
I can't really explain how difficult it was to write this but also how much this would mean to me to compete at this level, I would be beyond blown away if me and my bike find myself on that flight to the World Champs in Qatar with your help! ❤️
Lots of love, Bex xxx
P.S I also truely believe if lil’ old me can achieve this dream anyone can do it even if it’s just taking up a new sport or giving your first triathlon a go, hopefully this will give you a bit of inspiration to just give it a tri ♀️♀️♀️
