Most people know my dad was on dialysis, but that is not what took him away from us. He had been having issues with shortness of breath. The nurses at dialysis found out his hemoglobin was low, so he was loosing blood somewhere. My dad went to Baptist Hospital 2 times prior to this.
They stated they couldn’t find out why he was loosing blood, so they just kept giving him blood transfusions. Last Wednesday, he went to dialysis and the nurse knew he wasn’t going to be feeling well due to receiving his blood work, so they did his treatment and told him, “I can call an ambulance or I can call Jr. (my brother).” So my siblings Amber Nickson and Vincent Nickson Jr. took him to Baptist (he loved that hospital) they were waiting on him, because the nurse from dialysis called and asked to reserve an ER room for him. So they told him that he was going to be admitted. My mom went to see him and he was feeling a little bit better, because they were giving him blood. So Thursday afternoon the doctors called my mom and told her, his procedure went well. Remind you now my mom is at work if she knew my dad was having a procedure there would be no way in the world she would be at work. My mom asked the doctors what procedure and he explains to my mom, Vincent had 2 lesions on his intestines that were bleeding, he stated that he cauterized them and he should not have anymore problems. My mom called my dad about an hour later, he was still out of it. My mom went to see him and he was so drugged up, he said “I am going to get some rest and I need you to go home and get some rest”, due to some new health issues my mom have. My mom talked to him later that night he felt better. Friday he woke up vomiting, pulled the emergency string in the bathroom, nurses came to help him and told him that was expected after his procedure. Afterwards he said he felt so much better, they came and took him to dialysis he was fine. Saturday, Amber called him to check on him he said, “bring me my backpack and some clothes I want to shower”. She called him back and said, “I am going to bring my backpack because I can’t find yours. He said come and get me they are discharging me.” So Amber went and got him, he walked out of the hospital by himself, came home went to the store and went to the bathroom. His mom was in her room sleep and he kissed her on her forehead and she said all she saw his white shirt leaving out of her room and that would be the last time she saw her baby alive. So he comes into his room and sits on the edge of the bed talking to my mom, and she’s getting dressed to run some errands, he called his road dawg Lemuel May and they talked for a little. He told Lem “I will see you tomorrow I am about to lay down.” As my mom is pulling her shirt over her head, he falls off the bed onto the floor. My mom screamed and started CPR after talking to 911. My older sister LeiAnn continued it until Paramedics got there. They worked on him for so long, they did all they could do. The medical director came and told us that he was gonna do everything in his power to save him. They got a small pulse and transported him to the hospital he had just been discharged from. My dad wasn’t home 4 hours. Please Donate to his go fund or my mom Cash App $shamikanickson or make a donation/ payment to Tracy Morton Funeral Home!
