Local Homeless Man in Need!
Donation protected
The week of Feb 12th, 2016, a retired Marine friend, John Taeza, came across what he thought was an abandoned car in a parking lot. After a closer look he observed a man lying in the front passenger seat. He approached the car and knocked on the window and asked if he was okay. He said he was praying. John asked him what was wrong. He said it's a long story, and that he's been homeless for a year and a half and living in his car. He said he's just plain poor and can't afford to pay rent.
His name is Robert and he works 12 hrs a week for a local Disabled Resource Center. He takes care of a disabled person who has no legs and is paralyzed from the chest down. No matter what the weather conditions, Robert shows up at the person’s home 3 days a week, by way of a bicycle. He makes the trek, which is approximately 5 miles from his car, which is inoperable.
My generous friend John offered Robert a part-time job with his company a couple of days a week, which he gladly accepted. He has been picking Robert up for work at 6 AM. Throughout the week John has learned a lot more about Robert. He's 51 years old and never been married. He has never been in trouble with the law. He does not drink and doesn't do drugs. He's a great guy with a very strong Christian faith. He’s just down on his luck right now.
John was on edge as the day went along knowing that at the end of the day this past week he would be taking him back to his car for the night. The temperature was about to dip down to 18 degrees. After dropping him off, John came home full of guilt and unable to sleep.
After he got off work the next day, John went to see Robert. The high was 28 degrees. His water bottles in the car were solid ice. Temperatures were going to be in the single digits these next couple of nights and negative digits with the wind chill. John told him to get his things together, and he took him to a local hotel for the next 3 nights. Tears filled his eyes. HE SAID THE LAST TIME HE SLEPT IN HIS OWN BED WAS OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. Although his church and Pastor have been a blessing. They have put him up from time to time over a holiday or snow storm.
When John picked Robert up for work Saturday morning and asked him how he slept, he responded by saying it was nice to wake up and be able to feel his hands and feet. Robert had an extra pep in his step. Robert’s goal is to get a vehicle that is operable so he can be mobile and find more employment. Next, he would like to be able to afford a place to live. If you feel compelled to help in the slightest way, it is GREATLY appreciated. Together in prayer and strength, a miracle could happen for this man. He’s been praying. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST!
