Dear Friends
This is by far the most difficult letter I've ever had to write.
I am Jennifer Collard, niece of Kathleen Long-Holcomb who was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in February 2015.
Kathleen went into hospital one night because she was having pain and thought it was maybe her heart and after Dr's took an x-ray and ran tests they said her heart was fine but noticed at the bottom of her x-ray was something??? So another x-ray was done and they saw masses. Further tests and blood work were done and it came back as Ovarian Cancer.
In March 2015 Kathleen went in for her 1st surgery and we were told it would be a long one but we all waited for her at the hospital. We were upset to see the Dr. come out so early, BAD news. Dr. said cancer was worse than he could see by x-rays. Told us it was across her abdomen, intestines and attached to her liver and kidney, Next step CHEMO. I believe it was 10 weeks and she had to go back in for the de-bulking and hysterectomy. After the 2ns surgery Kathleen went downhill. She could not eat, could not remember some of us at times and was just so sick we thought we were going to lose her.
Kathleen is now eating and recovering at Heartland Rehab center in Troy trying to regain strength to hopefully come home. It's going to be a long road ahead, Cancer is still there and we all know CHEMO is coming back and hopefully not going to make her this bad again and we are all crossing our fingers for the best.
I wake up every morning and hope it's a bad dream I'm in and realize that this is now our family’s NEW normal. This period in my family's lives has given me a tremendous feeling of helplessness. I love my Aunt, she is my life, my best friend and I am so scared of the future without her, but we will continue to fight this with her and support her in every way possible.
Ovarian Cancer is a horrific disease. Kathleen can no longer go to work, short/long term disability only lasts so long and with the price of Cobra Health Insurance and Medical bills rising finances are becoming a concern. So with the push from friends I have set this page up for my Aunt-Kathleen Long-Holcomb to help ease some of the burden of the incoming medical bills.
I know not everyone can be in the position to give & that’s ok. Donations of any amount will help. No matter how big or small they all add up.
My hopes and prayers are for Brighter days/years ahead with my Aunt.
From our hearts, Thank You.
