Lou’s Life Saving Surgery

On May 16th, my parents celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. What they didn’t know was that day would be the last day of normalcy for quite some time. The very next day, my dad began to feel ill - what we all thought was COVID-19. He was admitted to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset, where we breathed a sigh of relief when he tested negative for COVID-19. That relief was short lived, as we learned my dad had an infection that spread into his bloodstream; he was in septic shock. His case was severe and extremely complicated and therefore we made the decision to have him transferred to Morristown Medical, where he fought for his life day in and day out, not knowing what the next hour would bring. The doctors were able to clear the infection from his bloodstream, but it had taken hold of his prosthetic aortic heart valve, compromising its function. This left no option other than surgery. Over the next few weeks, my dad battled and was finally considered strong enough to withstand surgery. On June 15th, he defied the odds and made it through his 5th open heart surgery in just 59 short years.
After 50 long days in the hospital, he was finally discharged and transferred to a nearby rehab facility, one step closer to being home with his family. There were many, many days where we thought the worst case scenario, but he has proven his strength and willpower to live time and time again.
As most of you know, my dad has played such a large part in our small town over the years - between recreation softball, MYAL, city council, and fundraising for the MHS digital sign and at our VFW just to name a few. As each day passes, medical bills continue to pile up, an amount that far surpasses anything we could have ever planned for. Please consider a small donation to help us in paying these doctors that helped to save my dads life ❤️
