On April 24, 2015 this beautiful little girl named Mackenzie Biros was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor. Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, Wilms' tumor is the most common cancer of the kidneys in children. This tumor most often affects children ages 3 to 4.
Mackenzie recently underwent surgery to remove her cancerous kidney. In addition to having this painful surgery Mackenzie is faced with yet another surgery on April 29, 2015 to have a nodule on her lung biopsied and a mediport inserted for chemotherapy. Directly following this surgery she will have a chest tube placed to keep her lungs inflated.
Mackenzie and her family are facing a rough road ahead. Mackenzie will have to endure a staggering 6 months of chemotherapy and radiation. Her family will be making weekly trips to Baystate Medical Center for checkups and treatments.
