Cult Survivor & Family Need Help
My name is Shane and I am a Scientology survivor. I was born into it and never given a choice if I wanted to be a Scientologist. It was just the way it was. I finally began to see it for what it was and made my exit. I never spoke out about my experience and past because Anyone who does that automatically gets disconnected from their family; it is church policy. I didn’t want to lose my family.
I have been experiencing audio and visual hallucinations for years, rendering me unable to keep any stability in my life as much as I searched for it. I never went to any mental health professionals because I was taught that mental health wasn’t a thing, and psychiatrists were nearly a comparison to the devil. It wasn’t until my mental health began to threaten what future I have managed to build that I resorted to a psychiatrist after a breakdown. I learned that I have Bipolar Disorder and that there is treatment and a stable happy life and future is actually possible for me.
I have a fiancé now, (she was the director of a homeless shelter I stayed at when me met) and a gorgeous two month old son. I am happy to say I am on medication that is working and allowing me to deal with trauma in a healthy way while mentally being there for my own family.
I wonder, how my life would have been different had I been taught to reach out when I felt like my mental health was not what it should be.
By doing this, my family is disconnecting from me, like I feared. I need help financially, so that I can finally catch up to where I’m supposed to be had I gotten help a long time ago. Of course, Covid has complicated the situation, losing my job, and unemployment around $100 a week. Any donations would go to expenses for my son, living situation, vehicle, and medical bills. We appreciate anything. It’s also important to me to share my story, and get some closure.
