Our mom Sylvia, just retired last year after working her whole life. However, what we were anticipating being the start of her well deserved relaxation, has quickly taken a difficult turn. What we believed were recurrent UTIs and hydronephrosis in her transplanted kidney, led to dozens of hospital visits, with a lot of unanswered questions.

On February 18th, 2026 she was admitted to University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and has been there since, due to her complex health issues. On February 28th, after many tests and questions, the doctors confirmed that she has an advanced stage bladder cancer (urothelial carcinoma). Multiple scans have shown it has metastasized to her liver and abdominal lymph nodes. A devastating diagnosis. Although treatment is an option, at this stage, there is no cure. At this time we have had to delay the start of treatment as she has battled debilitating nausea and remains in the hospital trying to overcome other hurdles before she is strong enough to begin chemotherapy.

As everyone knows, the cost of living continues to rise, and with this new diagnosis and the many, many hospital stays over the last year, the medical bills have continued to pile up. We are asking for help to alleviate some of her financial stress, so she can focus on her treatment ahead and hopefully be able to move closer to Amanda, myself and our families.

Our mom is not one to ask for help. She is fiercely independent and tries so hard not to worry others. The biggest lover of the Minnesota Vikings (if you know you know) and a beloved daughter, mom, grandma and friend to so many. Her dream after retirement was to sell her home in Rogers, and move closer to Amanda and myself in order to spend more time with us and her five granddaughters. Surely something we would love to make happen for her.

As her daughters, we want to take any burden we can off her shoulders, allowing her to focus on treatment and, hopefully, enjoy the retirement she has worked so very hard for. Any support you can offer will mean the world to our family and help our mom find comfort and peace during this incredibly challenging time. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
