A Double Tragedy: Rebuilding Sylvia's Church in Adelphi, Jamaica.
Hello, I am Mark Denton, son of Sylvia Denton, writing this on behalf of our family from Boston, Massachusetts.
Our hearts are grappling with an unbearable loss. On October 23, 2025, our beloved mother, Sylvia Denton, was unexpectedly called home. The sudden silence she left behind is profound, but her vibrant, deep-rooted faith offers us a clear path to keep her spirit alive.
Now, tragedy has struck her spiritual home—a place my family and I attended for decades. The powerful Hurricane Melissa recently devastated Jamaica, and its brutal force hit the community and sanctuary of Christ Church Marley in Adelphi, Jamaica, especially hard. Due to the hurricane's aftermath, there is an urgent need for basic daily essentials in the community, such as canned food, water, and tarps. Supplies are needed across the community.
The Immediate Crisis: A Community Exposed
The destruction is heartbreakingly severe: the Church sustained catastrophic damage, and its roof was completely destroyed. This isn't just a repair; it’s an urgent crisis. Without a roof, the historic structure is exposed to the elements, threatening to crumble and leave the people of Adelphi without their vital spiritual and community center.
Christ Church Marley was the anchor of Mom’s life, the foundation of her faith, and the community she loved. It was our true spiritual home.
Our Mission: A Lasting Legacy of Love
We are now faced with a powerful purpose: to honor Mom’s legacy by urgently supporting the renovations of the church she loved. The funds raised will be directly donated to the church building fund to fix the roof destroyed by the hurricane.
Your Donation: More Than a Gift, It's a Lifeline
Instead of flowers or other tributes, we ask you to contribute to this critical mission. Your donation is not a distant charitable act; it is a personal lifeline that immediately shields our spiritual family from despair.
By donating, you are helping us put the roof back on the building Mom held dear. You are ensuring that her memory is cemented not in stone, but in the restoration of hope and community in Adelphi.
Every single dollar raised ensures that:
The Sanctuary is Saved: We stop the decay and restore a safe place for worship and community life.
Mom’s Light Endures: The faith she lived by will continue to serve her community for generations to come.
Please help us turn our grief into a lasting, tangible legacy of love. Help us urgently rebuild the church Mom cherished.
With profound thanks for standing with us,
Mark Denton
