Sylvia's University Tuition
Donation protected
Hi! If you don't already know me, my name is Emma Forte Sczudlo. I'm a recent graduate from USC's Master's program in Global Medicine, a writer, a global health enthusiast, and a human rights advocate. I'm raising money to fund the college tuition of my friend, Sylvia Owalla. All proceeds are sent to her immediately via Western Union.
I met Sylvia while participating in my church, St. Monica's, yearly outreach mission to Dandora, Kenya. Through our emails in subsequent months, I learned that Sylvia shares my passion for knowledge but could not afford to continue her education. I made this campaign to fund her tuition at the United States International University in Kenya. Sylvia just completed her fifth semester, and she is pursuing a degree in International Relations. She dreams of a career in which she can travel the world while promoting respect for Kenya.
Sylvia’s determination and altruism inspire me every day. She is committed to philanthropy, especially work that benefits her community. During the 2014 Ebola outbreak, she organized a youth-led campaign to diminish viral transmission through public education. She also volunteers for the I AM KENYAN PROJECT, promoting Kenyan identity by fostering reconciliation between tribes. Sylvia’s selflessness sets the standard for my own generosity.
To start, I try to raise enough money to keep Sylvia in school. Sylvia supplements the funds I send her, working temporary jobs when she can find them (fun fact: Sylvia is a part-time model; you’ll see a few pictures from her portfolio on this page!), but the more I can raise here, the more time she can dedicate to her schoolwork. Thus, donations of ANY amount are greatly appreciated.
Please help Sylvia pursue the education she deserves! Tuition at USIU-Africa is about US $1,000 per semester, so $5,000 will allow Sylvia to complete the 5 semesters that remained when I began this campaign and receive her Bachelors degree.
