Sylvia's Medical Transition Fund
Hey everyone! My name is Sylvia Johnson, I use they/them or she/her pronouns, and I identify as a nonbinary femme. I play in radical queer punk band Gender Confetti, I am a member of the International Socialist Organization, and a harbinger of the gay agenda.
I was raised as a boy, and came out as non-binary almost exactly two years ago. I have been moving through many stages of development on my gender journey. The idea of taking feminizing hormones has always been in the back of my mind, and is now occupying a large portion of it, so much that I want to take material steps to medically intervene into my gender experience. Right now, that means feminizing hormone replacement therapy.
Taking this step would mean so much, HRT would enact physical and psychic changes that would help me navigate work and social spaces more comfortably. It would increase my confidence to appear and exist as more feminine. It would improve my mental health generally, particularly my social anxiety and gender dysphoria. Hopefully, it would also decrease the amount that I get mis-gendered on a daily basis, which would alleviate a lot of stress.
Currently, I do not have health insurance or a lot of money. Thankfully, I live three hours away from informed consent clinics in Chicago, where I will be making my first attempt to obtain feminizing HRT in the coming month. It is unclear what program I will get put on (which will affect the cost) so the number I have put up is a rough estimate to get me started on a path that I may pursue for life. I will continue to provide transparent updates as things unfold, and any funds I do not use will get put directly toward another trans person's medical needs.
If it's impossible for you to contribute monetarily, but still want to reach out, I would be so grateful for any emotional support during this time. Spreading the word is also a great method of support.
Thanks to all of my loved ones, to the queer community of Madison, to my chosen family, and to the people who have cared for and supported me on my path.
