Hello friends,
I'm Sonja and I'm raising funds for my bestie Sylvia and her ongoing legal battle to remain in the United States and be granted her green card. This has been a LONG journey, costing many thousands of dollars. Now, through no fault of her own, this process is in jeopardy.
Out of her faith and the call of the Lord on her life, Sylvia left behind her homeland, her family, her friends, and even her career to serve abroad as a missionary for the last 12 years. She trained and served in South Africa before moving to Chile. In Chile she served in the Fronteir missions ministry, planting churches and training others in various countries (Mozambique , Brazil, and Bolivia.)
Sylvia is now rooted and committed long term to serving in San Francisco. For the last 7 years she has served at Because Justice Matters as the Families Ministry Director. She also holds national leadership roles with CCDA, volunteers locally at Reality SF, and is completing her Master's of Old Testament Theology. We believe that all things are possible and we are believing for a miracle. Sylvia has (and will continue) to invest richly in the lives of all she meets. And so we are asking for a return on that investment now.
Sylvia has a new lawyer, one who is willing to fight for her and try to reverse the errors that were made on her behalf. Because of the quick turnaround needed for a legal response, Sylvia's initial bill is $8500. But we expect that number to rise before her green card is finally approved.
Please help us raise the money for these new legal bills. Please pray for a miracle. Pray for this new lawyer and her team to have the wisdom and tenacity to fight this battle. This victory is not just for Sylvia but for all in the community who are battling their own immigration challenges.
Funds will initially pay back my credit card for the $8500 that was charged today. Then all additional funds will be distributed directly to Sylvia to fund any additional legal bills and other costs associated with the immigration process. In the event we raise more than the legal costs, funds will be used support Sylvia's ongoing ministry in San Francisco.
