This is the very first time I, LZ Love, have ever been associated with a GoFundMe campaign. I come to you with a humble heart, deep love, and tremendous gratitude as I prepare to honor someone whom I love, adore, and miss dearly: the one and only Sylvester.

I had the extraordinary pleasure of singing background vocals for Sylvester for many years. To stand beside him, to witness his brilliance, and to share the stage with him was a gift I will carry forever.

Sylvester was born on September 6 1947. I was inspired to create a special birthday celebration here in Los Angeles, the city where his story began. Sylvester was born and raised in Watts, and although he later relocated to San Francisco and rose to international success, we believe it is time to bring his legacy back home to his roots.

This event will be the first celebration of its kind honoring Sylvester in his hometown, produced by myself as a tribute to an Icon who inspired me to be "Me."

The venue for this birthday celebration, plane tickets and hotel accommodations for several people who are part of this special event have been paid in advance. As it stand right now, I am a bit short for the funds needed to complete the celebration and make it the beautiful, powerful, unforgettable tribute that Sylvester deserves. Only you can make this possible by a love donation via this site.

Sylvester gave his all in everything he did on this earth. He gave his voice, his spirit, his courage, his artistry, his truth, and his love. He was more than a performer — he was a trailblazer who helped redefine music, fashion, freedom, and self-expression.

As one of the first openly gay and gender-fluid performers to achieve mainstream success, Sylvester created space for countless artists and generations of people to live, sing, dress, perform, and exist authentically. His courage helped open doors for artists such as RuPaul, Billy Porter, Lil Nas X and Adam Lambert just to name a few who boldly stand in the freedom He helped make possible.

Many legendary artists were connected to Sylvester’s musical journey, including The Pointer Sisters and The Weather Girls known for the #1 worldwide dance hit “It's Raining Man.”

His iconic song “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”, which Sylvester co-wrote with James Wirrick, remains one of the most influential songs in dance music history. Its impact can still be heard today in television commercials such as Starbucks, performances, and celebrations around the world. Sylvester also gave us global hits such as “Do You Wanna Funk”, and he appeared in Bette Midler’s film The Rose.

And yet, even with all of his achievements, awards Plus, he was honored with a Key to the city of San Francisco by the reigning, Mayor Diane Feinstein.

This celebration is "Our" way of saying:

Sylvester, you are loved.
Sylvester, you are missed.
Sylvester, you are remembered.
Sylvester, you are home.

Your donation will help cover the remaining event expenses. Any additional funds will be denoted on his behalf to the San Francisco Aids foundation: www.sfaf.org

No gift is too small. Every contribution is received with love and gratitude. Your support will help to create a celebration that reflects the joy, brilliance, beauty, and mighty real spirit that Sylvester gave to the world.

With your help, this event will be another star in his crown.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this historic celebration of Sylvester’s life, music, legacy and most importantly, His hometown roots, Watts!!!

With love and gratitude,
LZ Love
