Hello dear Facebook friends and family,
As we all know, COVID-19 has affected all of us in many different aspects of our lives. Many jobs, plans, ceremonies, and educations have all been altered dramatically due to the pandemic the past several months. In March, Bob Jones University made the wise decision to send the student body back to their respective homes in light of the seriousness of the virus.
I left behind a good, part-time job and close friends to return home to New York. It was an unprecedented challenge to finish the semester remotely as well as remain quarantined in the most affected state. By God's grace, I was able to finish the semester strong and spend a lot of time with my family. Unfortunately, my plans for the summer were completely wrecked. Even my best-made plans didn't compare to what God had in mind; He knows best, always.
Many of you are aware that I was given the amazing and humbling opportunity to serve as a camp counselor the previous summer. Coming off of that spiritual high, I entered this past fall semester seeking to do another summer ministry of a different kind. (I did not feel called to return to camp.) I was discouraged to find God closing the door to many of the options that I looked at. I decided to plan more practically and continued down that route.
When I returned home due to Corona, I didn't understand why God was saying no to every plan I had--both ministry opportunities and job prospects. Seasons of waiting are never my favorite times of growth. Through mutual connections, I was able to learn more about Covenant Mercy Missions and what they are about.
After much prayer and discussion with both parents, mentors, and friends I have decided to serve in New York City with Covenant Mercy Missions as a nonpaid intern with their food pantry ministry. I will be doing so for about two months and then return to Bob Jones to begin the fall semester of my senior year. (We are starting and finishing earlier than normal as a precaution.)
This is an important ministry because New York City was hit especially hard by the pandemic, which is a prime opportunity for a spiritual impact. Since it is an unpaid internship and I still have school bills awaiting, I will need financial help. Creating this fundraiser was completely out of my comfort zone, but after praying and talking through the concept with mentors I decided to go through with it.
Please know that I am incredibly appreciative and humbled by any support I may receive, both by prayer and donations. I completely understand that financial support may not be the most feasible option for some people during these times. If you would like more information, I have attached a link to the organization at the top.
Thank you all,
Brenna
