On Saturday, August 14, the Williams family were enjoying a day at the beach, when tragedy struck. Sydontay, the oldest of four, was crushed by a wave, breaking his neck in two places (C2 and C6). He was life flighted to Gainesville, where he has been receiving top notch care. The prognosis isn't good though. The family has been told that Sydontay will likely be paralyzed below his chest, for the rest of his life.
This family has already faced more than their fair share of tragedy. Charles, the father, died of a rare genetic disorder twelve years ago. That left Kristi, the mother, to raise their four boys alone. Sydontay has been working full time plus, since he graduated high school, to help support the family. Kristi also works, as does Alijah, the second oldest. The two youngest are still in school.
The loss of Sydontay's income on this family is huge. They were barely scraping by before the accident. And now, their income is greatly reduced. Kristi and Alijah have been away from work as well, focusing their energy on Sydontay, in his darkest hours. Their church family and their friends have stepped up, relieving some of the initial burden, but the upcoming needs are great.
This fundraiser exists to help supplement that income loss, while the family is waiting on Sydontay's new disability claim to be processed. They also will have to undertake the task of either moving or making their current home wheelchair friendly. Their landlord hasn't been kind to changes in the past, so they will likely need to move before Sydontay can come home and the family figure out what their new normal looks like. Any help you can offer this hard working family will be greatly appreciated.
