Sydney’s Memorial Travelling Ducks
Donation protected
Hi all,
Many of you were lucky enough to know and love our Syd, but for those that didn't, here's a little back story.
We are raising money to help fund Syds Memorial Travelling Ducks. Money raised helps pay towards the cost of getting a model & mold made, then production, shipping, VAT & import duties. Also towards printed plastic cards, special bond glue, banners ect. As a family we all chip in together to fund it currently.
Syd was born on her Dad & Nans birthday, 1st April 2008. 3 generations on the same day - no joke!
She was special in so many ways. She kept me youthful, we'd often have carpool karaoke sessions to Wheatus, Shania Twain, Green Day - you name it, we sang it!
In between me nagging her trying to keep her blood glucose in range ( she was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic in 2019 at aged 11) and keeping her room tidy, as a family we were always playing jokes on each other and making each other jump. The house was always noisy with loud music playing, Syd playing her guitar or Syd and Ivy bickering - just normal family life. She thrived for the weekend and always wanted to arrange to have people round for dinner and drinks.
Syd hated her diabetes but never hid her pump wire hanging down and always educated people that questioned what it was with such pride. I wish I had told her how proud she made me coping with it. Not just that, but her work ethic too, she loved her little job so much. She thrived when at The Riverside Cafe in Fordingbride and became a popular welcoming face there.
Sydney was home educated from 11 yrs old. She was in full swing of GCSE revision and was due to sit her first exam a few months later.
She loved to snowboard at our local dry slope snowtrax, we were there 3x week.
Syd had plans to be a snowboard instructor and travel the world teaching. As a family we cruise and holiday as much as possible. On cruises you often see little rubber ducks hidden around the ship and it quickly became the girls favourite pastime duck hunting!
Syd was the most thoughtful caring person I know, not a mother's day went by without a single rose for me and my mum. Not a father's day passed without thought and a little gift for her Matt, Pop & Dad. she never missed her sisters birthday and was always telling people what an artist her little sister was.
on 31st October 2023, my birthday we all took the day off to celebrate and have extra time to get ready for Halloween Trick or Treating dress up at a friends house. She headed into the bathroom at 8.30am to wash her hair but never made it out. She had a seizure and had passed out under the water. At 8.50am Matt and I gave our all to bring her back but we were too late.
In Syds memory we decided to get some rubber ducks and attach a card to them and hand them out or leave on in public places to see where they end up. We created a Facebook group which people post their duck photos from all around the world. We've had ducks in Peru, Japan, China, Usa and many more. It's heart warming to know that people will take Syds Ducks with them and we like to think if there is an afterlife she's watching where they are going and continuing to travel.
As a family, the ducks have been our saviour. Everyone is involved Me, Matt, Ivy, Gran, Pop & Dad.
I hope she would be proud of us all teaming together to keep her travelling and keep her memory very much alive.
The first week of May we have a literal army of ducks arriving that have been specially made that have matching hair to Syd. This army of 1000 ducks are purely to travel. Im sure this order will be one of many. The funds are to help pay towards her travelling ducks. If you can and you'd like to support Syds Travelling Ducks please do so.

18 months without you Syddies - it feels like 18 minutes and 18 years at the same time. We all miss you so very much
