Hey everyone! My name is Sydney and in 2020 I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease after a long battle with illness. I was finally prescribed a medication that saved me called Stelara. Each dose is about $25,000 but with help from a copay assistance program, I was able to just pay $5 per dose. Unfortunately, I had an issue when I changed my insurance at the beginning of this year where my medication was sent through to me but wasn’t billed to my insurance correctly. Because of this, the copay assistance didn’t kick in and I was left with the entirety of the cost of the medication. I have been fighting this for months now, and after talking in circles, have come to the conclusion that nobody is able to help me cover the cost of a medication that was already sent out. Fortunately I’m on an assistance program now that doesn’t rely on insurance, but they can’t help me retroactively. I’m sure you can appreciate that getting hit with a $25,000 bill for a medication that saved my life is extremely scary. I’ve been put on a payment plan that would literally take me the rest of my life to pay off, which I guess I can do, but the idea of it upsets me. I’m trying my best to work extra hard to make more money to help pay this off, but I’m humbly asking for your help if you’re willing to give me any. Since this occurred my anxiety has been through the roof and I don’t want it to affect my illness, which would cause a whole other host of problems. Anything helps, even if it’s just moral support. Dealing with a life-threatening illness is scary enough as it is, facing down this medical debt is absolutely horrific. Thank you everyone!
