Latest Update (9/28/2024)
First let me apologize for this late update. Things have been a little hectic lately.
We are sad to report that we don’t have a service dog yet. Finley, that was matched with Sydney, needed more time to mature and could not be trained for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). POTS is a condition that Sydney has that causes her to pass out with little or no warning.
I will try to post a picture where she fell out from a POTS episode. You can see from the picture our need for a POTS trained service dog.
Sydney has been introduced to Zeus as a replacement. Zeus has perfect energy and an outstanding nose. He will take good care of Sydney and will be able to do one thing that Finley could not do - cardiac alert.
We still have a payment due on Zeus. Sydney and Zeus were measured for a harness (est $900) which is not included in the cost of a service dog.
Everyone’s support and continued support is so greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
My granddaughter, Sydney Meenen, needs a service dog. She has several chronic illnesses and one of them causes her to pass out with little to no notice. She will be just walking beside you and one minute she is there and the next she is not. It’s very scary. Last week she fell out twice on the concrete. She has other illnesses that cause many more symptoms like being in constant pain and never getting any relief. Her dog would help her when she falls. If she has notice she can grab onto his handle. He can also help her get up. Most of the time she is disoriented when she wakes up. He will also bark to alert us that she has fallen. Originally, she was paired with an English cream golden retriever named Gabe. She was going to call him Finn. The dog trainers saw a picture of syd after she passed out and suggested we change to a Newfoundland named Finley. better for her mobility needs. We went to see him and it was love at first site. He is a gentle giant. At 6 months he is already 72 pounds. He could get to 150. Any help would be so appreciated.
