Sydney get through another amputation

Hi everyone! My name is Malia, and I have started this gofundme for one of my best friends, Sydney.

Starting May 2nd , Sydney will be undergoing a series intense surgeries on her already amputated leg. This GoFundMe will be going to support Sydney in whatever way is most helpful for her. Whether that is covering rent for her recovery time, managing grocery bills, or going directly to medical bills that will be accrued.

Sydney’s History:

In 2017, Sydney was diagnosed a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (otherwise known as EDS). After a long a vicious battle with EDS and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Sydney became an above-the-knee amputee in 2021 due to infection.

Despite this seemingly massive setback, Sydney has gone on to compete in a bike race before her 1 year post-op. She also moved to Colorado for her job and has become a big part of the amputee community. Her dream is to represent Team USA at the Paralympic Games. She currently works with a nonprofit organization called ROMP as their Social Media and Outreach Manager, and has been doing her best to live life to the fullest.

2024 has been a very rough year for Sydney. In addition to a major car accident she was also bitten by a puppy. The bite caused an opening in her incision along with an infection.

As a result of these complications, Sydney will need at least 2 more operations within a few weeks. The first one will be a deep bone biopsy, irrigation, and debridement with a wound vac on May 2nd to see how much needs to be revised and clean it out. On May 6th, the second surgery will be a full washout and revision, meaning her residual limb will be shortened further and any dead, damaged, or infected tissue will be removed. Her doctors hope that they can revise everything in 2 surgeries but it may be more.
