The love of all our lives, Sydney, is coming up against the fight of her life.
At just 36 years young, Sydney was recently diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The discovery of the spread has shifted the goal from curing the cancer, to treating it. This week, she begins an intensive, long term treatment plan that includes chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Sydney is one of a kind. Truly. It's next to impossible to put into words what she means to the people who love her, but I'll try.
Sydney is the friend who shows up. She’s fiercely loyal and protective of the people she loves (just ask anyone who's ever dated one of her friends). She is thoughtful, supportive, and genuinely, effortlessly funny. She can and will make you laugh until your stomach hurts.
She is a loving and devoted wife to Devon and mother to their beautiful four year old daughter, Evelyn, who is as lovely as you’d expect Sydney’s kid to be. She has spent her life caring for others through her career as a social worker in the non profit sector, showing up for people during some of their hardest moments and providing compassionate care to people with disabilities through her work at Peel Cheshire Homes. She is the kind of person who puts others before herself and does what's best for the people she loves, even when it's difficult.
And now it's our turn to do the same for her. While Sydney is in treatment, she can’t work, and nobody knows for how long. At the same time she is going through weekly treatments, Devon, who is a Local 675 carpenter by trade is needing to take a step back from work to take her to appointments and to care for their beautiful 4 year old daughter.
The reality is that cancer comes with an enormous financial burden. Beyond the emotional and physical challenges of treatment, there are countless expenses that quickly add up: childcare, medication fees, transportation and parking for appointments, unexpected medical costs, and lost income.
We are hoping to ease some of that burden so Sydney can focus her energy where it belongs: on treatment, healing, and spending precious time with the people she loves.
If you’re able to give, anything helps - truly. And if you can’t right now, sharing this fundraiser and keeping Sydney, Devon, and Evelyn in your thoughts means more than you know.
Let’s show up for Sydney the way she has always shown up for everyone else.
