SYDNEY ABBATE’S FIGHT AGAINST LEUKEMIA

Hello all, my name is Chelsey D’Orazio, I am Sydney’s twin sister. I’m creating this page on behalf of, Sydney, with the help of Dave and Sandy Abbate (our parents), Rachel Marcello (our older sister) and David DeGennaro (Sydney’s Boyfriend). In early March, Sydney was in and out of urgent care/ER over the course of several weeks for a nose bleed she thought to be minor. On March 28, 2022 the bleeding started again and unfortunately turned into an unthinkable diagnosis. After several tests and a bone marrow biopsy, it was confirmed that she has APL (Acute promyelocytic leukemia).

Sydney is currently in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy. Even though Doctors gave Sydney a good Prognosis, she will remain in an Oncology Unit at RGH for roughly 5-6 weeks. Syd is a fighter and like all things she does in life she is facing this head on, which means she will be dealing with a very aggressive treatment plan. Even after her discharge, Sydney will continue out-patient chemotherapy treatments. While there are still many unknowns about Sydney’s timeline for her treatment, we do know she has a long hard fight ahead of her.

For those lucky enough to know Syd, you know how awesome she is!! She’s an amazing daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend, and the list goes on! She’s an extremely hard worker and passionate about her career. She is currently in the RCMT program at Wegmans and on her way to becoming a Sous Chef. In her free time Sydney enjoys gardening, catching a cycle class, cooking, and hanging with friends and family. She adores her two cats, Junipurr and Noodle, who miss her terribly and cannot wait for her return.

Sydney has to put her life and career on hold but her daily living expenses and unexpected medical bills will continue. An abundance of people have been asking us how they can help / where they can donate, which is why we have created this page. Every little bit can help. There will be many ways to help Syd in her long journey ahead, but financial support is something we can do right now. Thank you so much for caring about and supporting Syd!
