Every teen's dream is to make their parents proud. I, Sydnee Henry did just that the day I was accepted to the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am my parent's first child to go to college and my 5 year old sister will surely follow in my foot steps in the future. I will be majoring in Architecture in the Fall. I've aspired to be an Architect from a young age. My paternal grandfather was a practicing Architect on the island of St.Lucia and now his son, my uncle, follows in his footsteps. One can say architecture is in my bones!!

I will be graduating from the Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York in a few weeks. I am a Prep for Prep scholar which equipped me with the tools and education to make the transition from public school to Saint Ann's in 2009. My high school has surely prepared me for the new chapter in my life known as college, after six years of rigorous courses and four years of architecture classes I could not be more prepared! Saint Ann's is an elite private institution that prides itself on individualism. We do not receive letter or numeric grades. Instead, we receive thoughtful one page evaluations from every single one of our teachers. This makes it even harder for me to apply for a multitude of scholarships. After 50 years of existence I will be the first student from Saint Ann's to attend Georgia Tech. Tech was my first choice and I applied Early Action so I knew that it was the place for me! I was fortunate enough to receive their Provost scholarship paying for half my tuition!
Now this is where your help is needed! Unfortunately, though I was prepared to take out loans to pay for the rest of my college tuition, (at least for my freshman year), both my parents are not eligible for Parent PLUS loans and they are also unable to consign on bank loans. Without these loans it is impossible for my family to come up with the $15,000 balance. After much searching and thought, with no one else to turn to, I turn to the generous community at large (acquaintances, friends or even strangers). I have set my goal at half of what I have to pay and will continue to search for scholarships, jobs, etc. I pray that everything will work out in the end. Please find it in your heart to help me reach my goal and make my way to Atlanta in the Fall and continue to make my parents proud!!
