Ulcerative Colitis Recovery
Donation protected
Sooo....I've tried to start this campaign before, just a few months back actually. My efforts started to snowball then melt only to snowball again. My story is so common and although I am posting this only because it is my last resort. In 2013 my son (now 26 years of age) was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. For those who are unfamiliar, the decease, although a lifetime disorder, is treatable and usually not fatal. The symptoms are harsh and the affect deteriorating both mentally and physically. Constant bowel problems including bleeding from the rectum, pain from ulcers in the colon, back pain from the accompanying arthritis and extreme weight loss (my son was 180 pounds now down to 114) causing fatigue and other minor issues. The diet is strict causing malnutrition and complicating matters worse. Hospital stays over the past couple of years have ranged from two weeks to two months. The first two hospital bills I received were in excess of $50,000 each. Since then he has started treatments including Humira which didn't work. We now take steroids and tramadol and receives Remicade fusions every ten weeks. Just recently he started to develop antibodies and now they are trying Lialda. So to reiterate, my story is common.
My son has been unable to maintain employment. When I first considered posting this in October, Bryson was offered a job. They only kept him for three weeks and terminated him after he had to be off for his fusion. A small blessing, he turned 26 in September. Now I'm paying out of pocket for medical insurance. Although he has MediCal the plan doesn't cover his needs. He's been denied both disability and social security.
The most recent set back came January 28th when he should have been administered his treatment, only to find out that he is no longer covered and that he must pay out of pocket. Recently they increased his dosage which means the original cost of one treatment is no longer $6,800 but closer to $8,000 (gofund me takes a fee so I rounded this request to $10,000).
The solution to this nightmare is a permanent job with benefits. I have been able to pay down some debts including payment for some of the past due medical bills. As my entering statement eludes....I am freezing over. Although I am in need financially and am thankful for even the smallest contribution prayers are always welcome.
This seems like an odd request but if anyone is looking for a freelance graphic artist we are grateful for even short term work so please forward my son's portfolio link 926raphics.prosite.com/
It takes a lot for me to post this as I am a woman of deep pride but at the same time deep in my faith. I feel unworthy asking (seems like begging) but the worse thing that can happen is no one gives. In that case, I've lost nothing. I know this is a long shot but sometimes you just have to take the shot and see which direction God blows it. For each of you kind enough to even read this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
