Sycamore Creek Charter School

Sycamore Creek Community Charter School opened its doors for the first time in September of 2019. We welcomed over 60 students in kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms. This wonderful beginning signaled the end to over 5 years of dedicated work by parents and teachers in the community to bring affordable Waldorf education to children in  North Orange County, California.

Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that our inaugural year would include a world-wide pandemic that would change the way we look at education forever, see the rise of a new civil rights movement that would sweep the country, or imagine that in these unprecedented times our state government, through the passage of SB 98, would cut funding to our beautiful new endeavor.

Our school is  now facing a financial challenge, despite having created a balanced budget for the upcoming school year, increasing enrollment that has doubled to 130 students and a community of parents/guardians, teachers and children that just want to go back to school, we are being asked by the governor and legislature of California to be content with funding for a mere 69 students.

So we ask, “What is this education worth?” Or “What can you give now?”.  We know that for many families this education brought by the spirit of unwavering commitment from Sycamore’s faculty to our children is priceless.  We also know that these are difficult times, for some more than others. We know that your answer might be, “I just can’t.” And, we ask the community in the hope that those of us who can offer support financially, who are blessed with this privilege, can and do. We all have important gifts to share. In this instance, we need to raise $350,000.00 to cover the shortfall that current legislation imposes. The local private school charges $2,193.00 per month, and our closest Publicly funded Waldorf Charter asks for $1,500 per student for the year to bridge the gap.  “Can you help support Sycamore through this year? Every dollar helps Sycamore to continue to bring  this "living" and "three-dimensional" education to our diverse community of learners.

From the bottom of our heart, thank you for your support!
